MISSION STATEMENT:  Shuswap Association for Community Living creates opportunities and provides support to optimize the potential of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Who We Are:
The Association has been providing services, supports and housing for people with intellectual disabilities and their families since 1963. Although the majority of individuals served are 19 and over, we also provide services to some youth.

Governance and Leadership
SACL has a volunteer Board of Directors made up of caring and committed citizens dedicated to the delivery of high quality supports and services. Board Members are charged with the responsibilities of upholding the Association’s Mission, Vision and Goals, and to protect the integrity of service to our consumers. New Board members are elected at the Annual General meeting in the spring, and serve for a two-year term.

The current President of the Board is Joan Sturdy joan_sturdy@telus.net.

The 6 member Consumer Council provides advice and support to the Executive Director and the Board.

Our Funding Sources
SACL is a non-profit, charitable organization. SACL receives funding from the BC government, through Community Living British Columbia (CLBC), the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), grants, and small contracts. Fundraising events are also ongoing, and donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. Individuals who have been referred by CLBC are receiving services through Customized Employment or Individualized Funding.

Accessing SACL Support Services
SACL is a “Host Agency” for families wishing to participate in CLBC Individualized Funding program. The family, CLBC and SACL enter into a contractual agreement to provide services. SACL will assist you to hire, supervise, and if necessary terminate support staff. Families can be as involved as they wish.

Community Living BC (CLBC) is no longer placing any new individuals in the following programs:

  • Environmental Solutions
  • Wood Shop
  • Community Volunteer and
  • Recreation.

SACL is the proud recipient of the 2006 Continuing Achievement Award, the 2011 Community Booster Excellence Award (presented by the Salmon Arm Business Excellence Awards), and has been a CARF Accredited association since 2005.
